The Great Burlesque Exposition
Panels

Panel are an opportunity for members of the burlesque community to learn from one another and share with one another in a semi-structured setting.  Less goal-oriented than our classes and workshops, panels are guided discussions between knowledgable attendees.  Led by a moderator, panels actively encourage feedback and dialogue between the "panel of experts" and the attendees.

Sitting on a panel is a great way to gain experience as a public speaker or to see if you might want to teach a class some day.  You don't need to be an expert to sit on a panel; you just need to be excited and enthusiastic about the topic!

Panels Under Consideration

Panel: What Makes “Classic” Classic?
Most "classic" routines are not direct replications of original choreography. So what is "classic" in neo burlesque? When is it OK to do an exact replication? What skills and techniques are classic, and how does a classic performer get her inspiration?

Panel: Producers’ Roundtable
If you’ve ever thought about producing a show or festival, this is the panel for you! Learn about all of the pitfalls from budgets to venues to promotion. Learn from our mistakes, so you don’t have to make them!

Panel: Burlesque in the Public Eye
Neo-burlesque is hitting the mainstream from Burlesque: The Movie to America’s Got Talent . “Burlesque” is becoming a great big buzzword. How do we educate our audience so they don’t walk out of our shows saying “That’s not burlesque!”

Panel: Troupe Dynamics
Some burlesque troupes are close-knit groups of dancers who never perform on their own; some are a loose collective of independent contractors. Let’s talk about the different troupe structures and how to handle the inevitable problems that come up in any social group.

Panel: Teaching Burlesque
If the question "What is Burlesque?" is a hard one, then "What is a Burlesque class?" is even harder. What do you teach? What do you expect? What's a must-have and what's more appropriate to a traditional dance or theater class? What class models have worked for you and what's your target class base? Are you creating your own competition, or are you building a community?

Panel: Tricky Situations
What have been your trickiest situations? What are those confrontations, tight spots, or ungraceful moments that stick with you as lessons learned or things to try better next time?
